HYROX Open vs Pro: Weights, Targets and Which Division to Pick
By Threshold
HYROX Open and Pro run the same eight 1 km runs and the same eight stations in the same order. The difference is load: Pro raises the sleds, the carry, the sandbag and the wall ball. Women Pro races on the Men Open weights. Open is the right first race; Pro suits a second season with a finish time to beat.
Open vs Pro in one table
These are the race loads for all four individual divisions, generated from the same station data the app uses. Sled loads are totals with the sled included.
| Station | Women Open | Men Open | Women Pro | Men Pro |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sled push, 50 m (total, sled included) | 102 kg (225 lb) | 152 kg (335 lb) | 152 kg (335 lb) | 202 kg (445 lb) |
| Sled pull, 50 m (total, sled included) | 78 kg (172 lb) | 103 kg (227 lb) | 103 kg (227 lb) | 153 kg (337 lb) |
| Farmers carry, 200 m (per hand) | 16 kg (35 lb) | 24 kg (53 lb) | 24 kg (53 lb) | 32 kg (71 lb) |
| Sandbag lunges, 100 m | 10 kg (22 lb) | 20 kg (44 lb) | 20 kg (44 lb) | 30 kg (66 lb) |
| Wall ball, 100 reps | 4 kg (9 lb) | 6 kg (13 lb) | 6 kg (13 lb) | 9 kg (20 lb) |
| Wall ball target height | 2.7 m | 3 m | 2.7 m | 3 m |
The other stations, the SkiErg, the burpee broad jumps and the row, carry no added load, so the step from Open to Pro is felt mostly on the sleds and in the back half of the race. Our HYROX weights by division covers every load in more detail.
Women Pro races on Men Open kit
Women Pro and Men Open share one load tier. Every weighted station uses the same weight in both divisions: the same sled loads, the same farmers carry bells, the same sandbag and the same wall ball. That makes the step from Women Open to Women Pro large. The sled push goes from 102 kg to 152 kg, and the sandbag from 10 kg to 20 kg.
The wall ball target is the one thing that stays with the athlete rather than the tier: Women Pro throws to the same target height as Women Open. The details for each division are on our Women Pro station loads and Men Open weights page.

Wall ball weights and targets
Wall balls close the race. The ball gets heavier in Pro: 4 kg in Women Open, 6 kg in Men Open and Women Pro, and 9 kg in Men Pro. Target height follows the athlete: 2.7 m for women and 3 m for men, in both Open and Pro. Our guide to breaking up HYROX wall balls covers how to break the reps into planned sets.
The sleds: where the gap is biggest
The sled push and pull show the biggest jump between divisions, and the training rungs move with them. The app trains each division on three rungs: a technique rung, race weight and an overload rung.
| Division | Technique | Race | Overload |
|---|---|---|---|
| Women Open | 65 kg | 102 kg | 120 kg |
| Men Open | 100 kg | 152 kg | 180 kg |
| Women Pro | 100 kg | 152 kg | 180 kg |
| Men Pro | 130 kg | 202 kg | 240 kg |
Work out the rungs for push and pull in your own division with our sled weight calculator.
The four division pages
Each division has its own page with loads in kilograms and pounds, sled rungs, substitutes and the questions athletes ask about it: our Women Open weights page, our HYROX Men Open weights, our Women Pro weights page and our Men Pro station loads.
Which division should you pick?
Enter Open or Doubles first. Our beginner's guide to HYROX calls Open the standard individual race and the right first choice: the weights are the most manageable and the field is the most forgiving. Pro is for your second season, when you have a finish time to beat and strength to spare.
- First race: Open, or Doubles if you have a training partner.
- You have finished Open and the stations felt comfortable: look at Pro.
- The sleds were your slowest stations in Open: build strength before stepping up.
Pro also changes how you train. Open divisions train at race load in every phase, while Pro athletes ramp from Open load through a midpoint to race load across the Base block.
Whichever division you choose, the training structure stays the same: two protected strength days, mostly easy running and one compromised session a week from week 4. Only the loads change. Our free HYROX training plan, week by week lays out the weeks, and the division you pick sets the weights inside them.
How the app recommends a division
Threshold can recommend a division from your lifts and benchmarks. Pick a division and the station loads, sled weights, wall ball sets and the strength wave follow the rulebook for it. If you are unsure, start with the recommendation, race Open, and let your results decide when Pro makes sense.
Whichever division you enter, train at its loads well before race day so the weights on the floor feel familiar rather than new.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between HYROX Open and Pro?
Pro raises the loads. Men Pro pushes a 202 kg sled against 152 kg in Men Open, carries 32 kg per hand instead of 24 kg, and throws a 9 kg wall ball instead of 6 kg. The runs and the station order are the same.
What are the HYROX Pro weights?
Men Pro: sled push 202 kg, sled pull 153 kg, farmers 32 kg per hand, sandbag 30 kg, wall ball 9 kg. Women Pro races on the Men Open loads.
Should my first HYROX be Open or Pro?
Open. The beginners guide calls it the right first choice and saves Pro for a second season, when you have a finish time to beat and strength to spare.
What are the HYROX Pro requirements?
The site does not list entry requirements for Pro. What it does show is the load step: if your lifts and benchmarks are comfortable at Open loads, Threshold can recommend whether Pro is realistic.
